1. Speed of Development.
Commercial Space technology and Military Prime generated technology appear to have differing development philosophies as exhibited by Spacex and Andruil Industries, and Lockheed and Boeing. The former has a development process based on SCRUM and the latter on stage gated serialized and controlled phases. The later emphasizes failure prevention. The former considers a failure just another SCRUM result on the way to success, whilst the staged gated process attemts to never have a phase have a failure. because space is a harsh environment for humans, and failures could mean humans die. If humans die, then the entire program is at risk of cncellation.
We re not advocating for stupid, but for a realization that much of the failure prevention process is unnecessary in today's world of 3D driven all-digital modeling, interference analysis, and pseudo simulations, earth-based SCRUM-like development cycles, and hopefully soon enough, space / mooon based development cycles which, with robotics, can minize human risk whilst still accomplishing much speedier development.
